Jury Citation on SOS VILLAGE, Jamshoro | TARIQ HASAN:

Sustainability in architecture deals directly to fundamental contemporary issues for our societies such as: responsible design, relationship with the environmental, cultural and social context with appropriate technologies. The project of the SOS Village in Jamshoro is based on a creative interaction among these aspects: design, cultural identity, technology; trying to find sophisticated but at the same time simple and cost effective solutions in each of these fields. The project implements the use of vernacular due to extreme climate in the region with wind catchers, shading devices and locally sourced material for thermal adequacies. The project expresses a remarkable ability to balance the needs of our contemporaneity, the relationship with the local building culture and the intimate needs of the children who will be hosted in the village.
