Saim Sadiq’s “Darling” wins Best Short film at 76th Venice Film Festival Awards

Pakistani Filmmaker Saim Sadiq was awarded Orizzonti Award For Best Short Film for his film “Darling”. The film follows the friendship of a boy named Shani and a trans woman called Alina had its world premiere at the festival.

Alina is played by Alina Khan, a young trans woman from Lahore, which is something we appreciate as it shows the importance of representation not just on stage but in the industry as well. Darling is also the first film starring a trans actor to be recognized by the jury at the festival, although trans themed movies have been awarded before.

The Director Saim Sadiq, is a lahore based director who graduated from Columbia University. This win is speculated to be one of many for the film which also premiered at Toronto International Film Festival.
